About our Towels

Our BeND THE RULeS Turkish Beach Towels are OEKO-TEX® certified. This certification confirms their origin and authenticity, and that the materials and weaving process used in their production are genuine. It certifies that every component of our towels, i.e. every thread has been tested for harmful substances, including azo colourants and nickel release. Simply put, the OEKO-TEX® certification ensures that we provide you with the genuine product, at a superior quality, compared to similar, non-certified products on the market. In addition, our BeND THE RULeS Turkish Beach Towels go through comprehensive quality control and quality check phases. All this ensures we offer our customers nothing but the best quality products, that can serve them for a long time to come. Our towels are one-off products, produced in small batches, through artisan processes, therefore each product is unique and beautiful.

By sourcing exclusively OEKOTEX® certified towels we are supporting OEKOTEX® in their aim to enable consumers and companies to make responsible decisions which protect our planet for future generations. Since 1992, OEKOTEX®'s portfolio of independent certifications and product labels has enabled companies along the textile chain and all consumers to make responsible decisions in favour of products that are harmless to health, environmentally friendly and manufactured in a fair way.

Though you may know it as a trendy beach and bath item, the Turkish Towel has a long history dating back hundreds of years. Sultans of the Ottoman Empire, as well as all subjects of the empire would use these special towels in the Hammams (Turkish Baths) and in their everyday lives. According to the ancient Ottoman traditions when a couple decided to marry, they would give each other a bath set, with these towels being the key piece.

Faster drying than its Egyptian counterpart, Turkish cotton is a premium long-fiber cotton grown exclusively in the Aegean Region. The long fibres yield stronger and smoother threads than regular cotton. Because of this unique material, our BeND THE RULeS Turkish Beach Towels are strong, quick drying, and become more absorbent with use. Washing the towel helps to scruff up the individual fibres a bit, becoming even softer, fluffier, and more absorbent with successive washings. Due to this, Turkish Towels could be called the ‘fine wine’ of the towel world, as they get better with age.

Our towels are produced using traditional weaving methods, on manually operated looms, in Denizli, the textile capital of Turkey. They are manufactured using a machine known as Kara Tezgah. Despite being "old-fashioned" and slower than modern machines, Kara Tezgah delivers premium quality products due to its unique features. This YouTube video depicts various examples of Kara Tezgah machines in the Denizli province. Even though our BeND THE RULeS Beach Towels look thoroughly modern, and the weaving machines used in the production have evolved somewhat over the last decades, each towel is made essentially the same way as they have been for centuries.
